Junior School

The Junior School caters for children from Reception to Year 3. We adopt a creative and personalized approach to the Cambridge Early Years and Cambridge Primary Programme. For example in subjects such as Geography, History and PSHE we link our lessons with our learning environment of Malawi.  This allows teachers to teach the basics of the curriculum plus so much more. Assessments are undertaken regularly to track and maximize student progress. Year 3 students write internally marked Cambridge Progression tests to ascertain readiness for Year 4.

Getting to know our children and their families is very important and provides opportunities that further develop student interests and strengths. Knowledge of our children allows teachers to ensure children are challenged appropriately and supported closely through their formative years where needed, allowing children to thrive through Reception to Year 3 and beyond.

Children from Reception Class have access to specialist teachers and learning environments for subjects such as Arts and crafts, PE and remedial lessons.

Outdoor learning is encouraged at MSIS as this helps to inspire our students, develop their curiosity, and build on their problem-solving skills. Students use tools and natural resources within activities which encourage hand-eye coordination.  This also promotes teamwork and allows students to explore the natural environment around them. Students are encouraged to explore and take risks in a safe environment. We strongly believe that being outside can help to develop self-esteem, confidence, independence and responsibility.
